Dealing with Medical Gaslighting

By Mindy Lawrence

If your doctor tells you that you aren’t really sick, that it’s in your head, or if you’d just lose weight, you’d be fine, then there’s a chance you’re being medically gaslighted. Medical gaslighting is when a doctor or other medical staff downplays or dismisses your concerns about your health or doesn’t listen to what you say or feel about your health. Especially women’s health issues are overlooked by medical people.

Many consider these acts a form of emotional abuse. The effects cause both physical AND emotional problems. It’s time for patients to advocate for themselves when facing these situations.
